WarBall LARP / WAFL+ — materials for Santa Rosa Junior College and insurance review

This page gives SRJC Risk Management, Keenan and other reviewers a single starting point for the proposed WarBall program. It connects the existing rules, engagement explanations, equipment information, player training, practice plan and participant documents.

Review status: These are organizer-prepared materials for evaluation. . The Emergency Action Plan is labeled a review copy; venue details and adoption remain pending.

Program overview

WarBall combines football-based ball movement and team objectives with LARP-style equipment engagement, controlled contact and theatrical play. Its stated safety objective is to reduce unnecessary high-speed collisions and uncontrolled force through engagement prerequisites, device-based outcomes and organized instruction. Physical contact, falls and equipment interaction remain risks for reviewers to assess.

Start here: document review index

  1. Official WarBall Rulebook and Quick Read
Start with the one-page overview, then examine the detailed playing rules, permitted contact, restrictions, penalties and responsibilities. The written rulebook provides detail beyond this summary.
  2. Safety mechanics and contact rules
Illustrated explanations of engagement before body contact, device-trigger outcomes, receiver and ball-carrier situations, and controlled takedown and blocking concepts.
  3. Equipment for Safety Described
Descriptions of helmets and visor devices, LED activation, protective padding, the WarBall, sabers and staffs. Reviewers should distinguish current equipment from older or developmental examples shown on the site.
  4. Six-module player training course
Modules cover differences from football and conventional LARP, offense, defense, engagement-first rules and force control. The course currently specifies 70% passing for Modules 1–4 and a perfect score for safety-critical Modules 5–6, with review and retesting when needed.
  5. Orientation and five-week practice plan
The edited practice plan and opening Quick Read provide the proposed framework for orientation, drills, contact progression and team practice. Review the actual plan when assessing progression and supervision; quiz completion alone does not demonstrate practical readiness.
  6. Emergency Action Plan — review PDF
Review the proposed emergency procedures and confirm venue-specific arrangements before adoption. Named responders, emergency access, AED location and availability, and communication responsibilities require confirmation.
  7. Waiver, indemnity agreement and Emergency Action Plan viewers
All three documents open on this page with PDF navigation controls. Participant and indemnity wording remains subject to institutional legal and risk-management review.

Contact mechanics: review priorities

The linked materials describe device targeting or weapon engagement before specified body contact, limits on force, device activation that can end a player’s involvement in a play, and authorized takedown or blocking situations. Reviewers should assess whether the written rules, demonstrations, training questions and practice progression consistently communicate the same requirements.

Demonstration images and videos show how WarBall’s equipment, engagement rules and force-control techniques are intended to reduce risk in practice. They are provided to help SRJC and insurance reviewers evaluate these safety measures alongside the written rules and equipment information.. See the LARP Game provides additional examples.

Participant readiness and emergency preparation

Review should address completion of training and participant documentation. WarBall’s training course, rulebook, equipment information and participant forms are linked above for review. SRJC may identify additional participation requirements or request clarification of these materials Final requirements should be established through SRJC’s review and the responsible medical and safety personnel.
